How can a person with a modest income receive treatment at C.M.C. Vellore, according to the eyes of ordinary middle-class people?
Currently, many people are being adversely affected by the improper use of healthcare, with a noticeable influx of individuals from Bengal and Bangladesh being observed. This topic aims to assist those who are visiting for the first time, providing them with insights based on prior experiences. Despite having a moderate income, the sharing of valuable insights remains a priority in order to offer support.
Take an auto-rickshaw from the station and come to Gandhi Road for INR 150-200. The lodging starts at Rs 300. It's decent but not very spacious. There is limited space beside the bed to keep your bag. You will get a small cupboard to store your clothes. So, you may not need to take out clothes frequently, and you can use a hanger instead. For higher-income families, there are plenty of residencies available. You can find a good residency on K.V.S. Chetty Street. However, most places here are lodges.
Each floor has a kitchen for cooking. Gas will be provided for cooking at a rate of Rs 130-150 per kilogram. They will provide a cooking pot, a pan, a ladle, a plate, a spoon, a bread-making utensil, a knife, and two containers. The rent for the entire set is Rs 12-20 per day. It's good to wash and clean the utensils before using them.
Each lodge has a common balcony where you can dry your clothes. However, you need to bring your own rope and clips. It would be better to bring enough clothes as there is limited space for keeping clothes in the cupboard. Additionally, towels and bed covers are not provided by everyone, so you may need to bring your own.
If possible, bring plastic containers to carry food from the restaurant to the lodge. If you want to bring food from the restaurant to the lodge, there will be an extra packing charge of Rs 5 per container.
Try to stay near Gandhi Road. Lodges, residencies, and restaurants are all available on the main road. Moreover, you can get vegetables at a lower price by going a little further and taking a left turn. The prices here are generally lower compared to other places. CMC is also near Gandhi Road, and many people stay there.
Sometimes, you may not have time to cook. In that case, near the CMC, outside or in front of the OPD block, there are food stalls where you can have good food. It's recommended to explore the lanes and try the Bengali hotels like Barnaji Hotel and Annapoorna Hotel. The food is good there.
Now, let's talk about hospitals:
Indians can visit hospitals easily, but for outsiders, it is mandatory to have a COVID-19 report for both entry and exit. Additionally, they are providing N95 or surgical masks. Other masks can be purchased from the hospital canteen. However, if you need to undergo surgery, the patient must undergo a COVID-19 test.
The security guards at the hospital are very helpful, and they will guide you to the entrance gate.
First, you need to go to counters 1, 2, 3, or 4 in the ISSCC building to get a CHRIS card. You will need to show your ID proof for that. This card is essential for all hospital activities, including doctor appointments and tests.
For any work, you must visit the MRO counter located on each floor.
After seeing the doctor, collect the medical report. The doctor will guide you on what to do. Additionally, if you need to undergo X-rays, MRIs, or similar tests, you will need to pay separately for those plates. Keep all these documents with you as you may need them for future appointments.
If you have the time, you can visit Tippu Sultan Fort, Golden Temple, and Tirupati Temple. These places are worth exploring.
