Two well known digital health platforms, aarogya-setu and CoWIN now to be repurposed for other public health concerns under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Aarogya-setu and CoWIN were effectively used to control, monitor and manage the COVID-19 pandemic, It seems like corona is hopefully out of our lives now, this application is being revamped and will now address of health issues digitally for people of India.
How center is planning to reuse Aarogya-setu and CoWIN for public benefit?
According to the source (Hindustan Times), National Health Authority (NHA) CEO R.S. Sharma said on September 25 that there had been 240 million downloads of Arogya Setu. The application is being modified to address digital health concerns for Indian, as corona is no more a threat hopefully for us. If you go to hospital, you will not have to wait in a queue to register yourself, you can scan and and get the OPD card. CoWIN,Covid-19 vaccination portal is also being repurposed so that individuals may use it to locate and obtain the other 12 mandatory vaccines covered by the national immunization program, including the polio drop. As per Sharma, India is creating service-level registers for doctors, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, health records, etc.
The Aarogya Setu app was launched for handling COVID-19 in a systematic manner, which now updated and likely to function as a health and wellness app. After being massively used to facilitate COVID-19 immunization, CoWIN will be utilized for India universal immunization program & as a health management information system for small doctors.
The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission was introduced on September 27, 2021. The digital mission has reached the milestone of 10 million digitally-linked health records within a year, with over 2.6 million records linked every day. This marks a significant turning point in the effort to digitize health records, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on September 25.
Additionally, the Healthcare Professionals Registry now has about 80,000 registered healthcare professionals and at least 1,50,000 registered healthcare facilities. 7,11,571 people have downloaded the ABHA app as of this writing.
As per Sharma, the digital platforms are highly scalable. 200,000 doses of the Covid vaccine were recorded on Day 1 before reaching a daily rate of 25 million doses.
There should be no space for fraud in AB-PMJAY which aims for the healthcare of the poorest from the society. We need to use all available technology tools to remove even the smallest scope for any fraud, said Mandaviya.
The two days long Arogya Manthan 2022 program was inaugurated by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday. Highlighting the PMJAY beneficiaries as the most important stakeholder in the largest global public health insurance scheme, Mandaviya stated that over 19 crore Ayushman Cards have been made in the country spanning its coverage in 33 States/UTs, and more than 24 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) numbers have also been generated. This reflects an important milestone in the the digitization of health records in the country, he said.
