Special NCD Screening Counters Introduced in Government Health Centers Mohali
Mohali is taking a major step in preventive healthcare by introducing dedicated Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) screening counters in government health centers. This initiative, part of a national drive, aims to ensure 100% coverage of individuals aged 30 and above, making early detection and treatment of diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and cancer more accessible than ever.
Mohali, February 2025 – In a significant move towards strengthening preventive healthcare, government-run health centers across Mohali have set up special counters to screen for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, and common cancers (oral, breast, and cervical).
This initiative, spearheaded by the Union Health Ministry, is part of an intensified screening campaign designed to provide 100% coverage for individuals aged 30 and above. The program, which began on February 20th, will continue until the end of March 2025, ensuring that every eligible individual gets the necessary health checkups.
Why This Initiative Matters
NCDs are silent killers—they develop gradually and often go unnoticed until they become severe. Diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer contribute to a massive burden on India’s healthcare system, leading to increased mortality and long-term disabilities. The earlier these conditions are detected, the better they can be managed.
This dedicated screening drive focuses on:
✅ Door-to-door outreach: Health workers are visiting households to encourage people to get tested.
✅ Multi-agency collaboration: Various health departments and local authorities are working together for seamless execution.
✅ Real-time monitoring: The data collected is being analyzed to ensure effective implementation and necessary follow-ups.
Where and How to Get Screened?
The special screening counters have been set up at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and other government health institutions across Mohali. These centers will conduct free health screenings and offer on-the-spot consultations for those diagnosed with any risk factors.
Moreover, special health camps are being organized to reach as many people as possible. Residents aged 30 and above are encouraged to visit their nearest center and get screened for free.
A Step Towards Preventive Healthcare
The Mohali Health Department is actively raising awareness about the importance of early screening. Posters, announcements, and door-to-door visits by health workers are being conducted to encourage participation.
“We want to ensure that no one is left undiagnosed. Prevention is always better than cure, and by detecting these diseases early, we can improve health outcomes and reduce future complications,” said a senior health official.
What’s Next?
By the end of March 2025, the government aims to have covered the entire eligible population in Mohali under this screening initiative. The campaign also aligns with India's broader healthcare vision of reducing NCD-related deaths and complications in the coming years.
This proactive approach by the government is a major step towards healthier communities, and it is now up to the residents to take advantage of this opportunity and prioritize their well-being.
