The Limitations and Risks Associated With Semaglutide Treatment

To the Editor In a Research Letter recently published in JAMA Cardiology, Shi and colleagues found that over 129 million US adults are eligible for semaglutide for weight loss indications. The authors highlight that semaglutide is a high-cost treatment option with inconsistent insurance coverage—its retail cost exceeds $1600 per month. However, there are also other significant limitations and risks associated with semaglutide treatment that merit consideration.
