Precision Medicine to Guide Blood Pressure Control

Hypertension is the leading modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the US, affects 122 million adults, and is projected to exceed 180 million adults by 2050. Yet, control of blood pressure (BP) remains dismal with less than half of adults achieving control with disproportionately lower rates among non-Hispanic Black adults compared with non-Hispanic White adults. There is growing recognition that disruptive strategies are needed to improve this large and persistent implementation gap. However, little attention has been paid to precision medicine-based strategies to date.
